MK-677, which is also known as Ibutamoren or Oratrope, is an orally active and selective agonist of the ghrelin receptor. Research indicates that MK-677 can increase the natural secretion of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), while not affecting cortisol levels. It is currently being researched as a possible treatment for growth hormone deficiency, muscle and bone wasting, appetite stimulation, and Alzheimer's disease. In mice, MK-677 research has shown that it can prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease, even in genetically predisposed mice, as long as it was started before significant amyloid beta accumulation.
